Our principal and staff

Our school team is committed to every student’s learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging. We work together to create a supportive and inclusive school where every child is set up for success.

Welcome to Wallerawang Public School.

At Wallerawang PS we recognise every student, staff member and the wider school community for their contribution to ensuring that Wallerawang is an outstanding school. Everyone contributes in their own individual and unique way through equitable opportunities for all. Public education transforms lives through learning and no child should be disadvantaged by their postcode. I am often asked what is the one thing that has made the difference at Wang, the first time I was asked this I pondered and considered there are many aspects to our work that has made a significant difference to our performance. The work is layered and deliberate, and we are excelling in leading, teaching and learning and there is a common thread that brings this all together and that is a high expectation school culture one that is built on relational trust. There is always room for improvement and the work will continue, we don't rest on our laurels at Wang. To truly understand the magnitude of our work, we must be able to know and show and it is incredibly rewarding when it all comes together. In 2021 as a trial school for the newly introduced phonics screener we were tracking 16% below state average at 41%. In 4 years, there has been a growth of 43%, with an average of 84% of our students on track to reading success, significantly above state averages. Our NAPLAN and Check - in Assessment results continue to be above similar school groups in reading and numeracy and pushing or exceeding state averages. Our attendance rate indicates education is valued exceeding SSSG and state averages. We are public and proud, and this should be shared, celebrated and shouted from the roof tops at every opportunity. I want our students to have the best opportunities with whatever path they choose. Our PLAN for NSW Public Education recognises that providing meaningful pathways is a part of our students being successful and this has been an incredibly positive move forward as a system. What does this mean for the students, that they are able to broaden their horizons if that's what they wish holding the strength in the morals and values that they have learnt along the way, but that as a village and a community that the past informs the future. That we take our strong industrial past, and we combine it with the opportunities of the future as our students become informed responsible citizens ready to give back to the community that raised them. May we continue to share a true sense of community recognising that our students learn, grow and belong at Wallerawang Public School.
